BALLET - JAZZ - MODERN /CONTEMPORARY (BJMC)

This is a Team Canada Dance / IDO Canada team, not a studio or choreographer-owned team.

Our rehearsals take place in rented studio space throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), depending on availability.

If you have any questions regarding the team, registrations, schedules, or policies, please contact the Team Canada Dance office directly. 

Please do not contact the studios where we rehearse or our choreographers, as they are not responsible for team administration and are unable to answer team-related inquiries.  It will make the process much longer.

CASTING CATEGORIES (each genre)

Formation Children (9-12yrs)

Formation Junior (13-16 yrs)

Formation Adult (17 & over)

*All dancers will be a part of Formation which is a large group (8-24 dancers).  Dancers also have the opportunity to dance all together in the Production

From the chosen Formation dancers, we *may choose dancers for

• Small group.  We may only choose dancers for 1-3 small groups  per age 
• Duo.  We will only choose for 1-3  duos per age division
• Solo. We will only choose for 1-3 solo positions per age division

RESULTS

Results may be available 7 days - 8 weeks after the first audition, however, the faculty may choose  to DEFER RESULTS  until enough have been chosen or first round has accepted their spots. 

We  will may not notify EVERYONE if they did not make the team with the email on file. Some  dancers may be asked to come for a second look.

VIDEO AUDITIONS ACCEPTED UNTIL TEAMS ARE FILLED.  We can not take more than 24 dancers per age and teams are filling fast!

VIDEO AUDITION

1. fill out registration form, select video.  The link is above.
2. send video or video link. All formats accepted.  Video of a recent competition routine or film something with your phone.  Show us what you can do!  Great footwork is important but so is stage presence.  
3. send a headshot - it can just be a pic on your phone or any pic you have that shows at least from head to waist.  It doesn't have to be a dance pic.  This is a reference pic.

BALLET SKILLS REQUIRED TO DEMONSTRATE

Please include in your video the following skills to the best of your ability

• Tendus (to show use of feet)
• Adagio movements (developées, arabasques)
• Petite allegro (sautées, echapées)
• Pirouettes any combinations
• Grand Jetés en tournent
• Diagonal tours (tours piques, toured soutenus)
  
  *if you have a variation, you may submit that video as well in addition to a solo that you are currently competing with or performing.

BALLET POINTE WORK

If you are 13 & over, please include a pointe work submission as well.  Juniors (13-16) is optional, however, if you do pointe, please include for assessment.  If you are 17 & over, you must submit a pointe work submission.

JAZZ DANCE

Jazz Dance is also taking place at the same time/venue as the ballet championships, you may be a part of both teams if accepted, or only one.  Video auditions for jazz should include a dance routine  - we want to see performance ability as well as dance caliber. 

TECHNIQUE REQUIREMENTS FOR DANCE

We would like to see these qualities in your dance performance or a separate video showing certain techniques

• performance/show factor
• leaps/jumps
• kicks
• holds
• pirouettes

MODERN/CONTEMPORARY (m/c) DANCE

Modern/Contemporary is also taking place at the same time/venue as the ballet/jazz championships, after that event concludes. You may be a part of one, two, or all three genrs if accepted.  Video auditions for m/c should include a dance routine  - we want to see performance ability as well as dance caliber. 

TECHNIQUE REQUIREMENTS FOR DANCE

We would like to see these qualities in your dance performance or a separate video showing certain techniques

• leaps/jumps
• kicks/holds
• pirouettes
• fall/recovery
• dynamic alignment
• contractions
• expressiveness
• improvisation/creativity

We would love to bring an  Adult 2 team to Slovenia this year! If you know anyone who is interested, please email us. We need  to know by July 30 to reserve rooms.

We can bring a Formation (8-24 dancers) or Small Group (4-7 dancers).
