Once accepted to the team and verified your acceptance with the IDO Canada office, please register yourself for the team travel - as well as any family/companions traveling with the dancer.
Please read thoroughly
Most of your questions will be answered here including what to do at the airport, the hotel information, tickets, etc.
** YOU MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT THAT DOES NOT EXPIRE WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF TRAVEL DATES.
I cannot stress this point enough. Numerous past participants have tried to travel with either a passport that will expire within the 6 months, or already expired! These dancers/parents were turned away at the airport. Don't let this happen to you! This is YOUR responsibility, not ours or the airline booking our tickets. We try to remind people to renew passports but we cannot do it for you. You will have to buy another airline ticket if you fail to get on with the rest of the team.

TENTATIVE SHOWCASE
We are planning a Dress Rehearsal/Showcase for Saturday October 19, 2024
This year, we are asking families to purchase their own airline tickets. In the last couple of years we have found that airlines aren’t interested in booking groups anymore and are making it more difficult.
Families will be able to take advantage of seat sales, use their points, and use third-party sites like Expedia to get a better deal
This year, we are asking families to purchase their own airline tickets. In the last couple of years we have found that airlines aren’t interested in booking groups anymore and are making it more difficult.
Families will be able to take advantage of seat sales, use their points, and use third-party sites like Expedia to get a better deal for their families.
ADVANTAGES
Group tickets cost more than if you purchased your own online. We often pay even more as we wait for everyone's travel info. You can take advantage of seat sales and third-party sites for the best deals. You can use your credit card which may include insurance and points. You can decide the duration of your trip. Sponsors may donate points towards your flights. You can upgrade to whatever level you wish - you won't be limited for seat choices as we are in groups.
DISADVANTAGESS
If your flight is delayed/cancelled, any additional expenses are up to you. If something happens and you don't make it to the competition in time, you cannot compete in the next round as only dancers who qualified for the next round can compete. IDO has make exceptions for entire teams who missed a round due to travel. It's always exciting to travel with a group but the reality in the last few years is that we cannot get everyone on the same flight anymore. You may not be comfortable making your own arrangements - but we can help!

WAYS TO PAY
We prefer sponsors to pay the dancer directly as the money isn't going to Team Canada Dance. If they would rather pay directly, have them contact us and we can make arrangements. There is also an option for them to make a sponsor payment on Amilia or through our PayPal with the dancers name/team/province in the comment section.
A great way to offset some of the travel cost is to form a fundraising committee within the team. This not only helps those families in need but also promotes team bonding.
Individual dancers may seek sponsorships from local businesses to help as well. In the past, we have had several dancers pay for their entire family this way!

Finally, get yourself in the news! But before you do, check with us to see if other dancers in your area are on this team or one of the other ones so you all get some exposure!

IDO has offered the Adult 2 Division for years, however, Canada has never brought a group to participate. We hope to change that this year!
Adult 2 is for dancers 31 yrs and over who may wish to compete in a formation and/or small group. Adult 2 does not include solo/duo/trio as dancers of any age over 17 yrs may compete in those regular adult divisions.
Do you know anyone who may be interested? Let us know!
We need to know by April 1, 2024 so we can make the proper arrangements.

2018 Silver Medal Production
Choreographed by Matthew Clark

Battle of the Feet is an exciting addition to the IDO World Tap Championships which started in Riesa,Germany, thanks to Michael Wendt. Countries/Federations may nominate 1 MALE and 1 FEMALE to battle. Dancers hear a rhythm and try to 'out-tap' the other contestants. Mr. Bill Fowler, a longtime friend of Michael Wendt and the Tap community, was instrumental to bring the battle to the stage. Since his passing, the Battle of the Feet has since become known as Bill Fowler's Battle of the Feet in his honour. Organizations nominate their own participants.
Final round Igor Bezdieniezhnykh (Czechia) vs Kai Scanlan (UK)
Final round Krissy Carberry (USA) vs Daniel Leveille (Switzerland)
"Bill Fowler Jr, DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER, ADJUDICATOR, MENTOR, IDO-HONORARY PRESIDENT and AMAZING PERSON!"
Bill was the owner & artistic director of the Fowler Dance Studios for 42 years, Honorary Lifetime President of the IDO, President of the USDSCF & Dance Commisioner of the Arts Games. He also was a dancer, choreographer, international adjudicator & author. Bill has a special place in the heart of many Team Canada Dance members and he will be sorely missed.
