The Organizers have invited people to choose their personal unforgettable performance in Riesa. Riesa Unlimited wants us all to enjoy some of the many favourites once again. Just nice memories of the greatest tap performances in Riesa since 2000.
Event Executive Producer, Michael Wendt said:
‘As we did with Riesa Show Dance, we will welcome many friends from around the world choosing their favourite Tap routines from the last 22 years. We are remembering the wonderful, thrilling and exciting IDO World Championships in Riesa! Have fun and the best of memories watching unforgettable highlights, awesome jewels and stunning performance of Tap Dance in Riesa.’
The IDO World Show Dance Riesa Unlimited 2020! Have fun and the best of memories watching unforgettable highlights, awesome jewels and stunning 26 shows out of these 22 years of Show Dance in Riesa, Germany.
The first IDO Gala World Event “Best of the best “ 2015 was held in Rimini, Italy on October 24th 2015. This year, for the 6th annual event, IDO held a special online edition of IDO Gala World Event. Gold medalists from all IDO dance categories were on the list of nominations. The favourites were chosen for the first time ever by a facebook contest, voted by the public. Anyone could vote. The finalists are presented in this 2020 online edition.
A special award was given to Canadian choreographer Christie McKay-Hofland for "Achievement as Outstanding Trainer and Choreographer". Christie began her journey with Team Canada as a member/competitor in our early days and has since rose to become one of our finest choreographers for Jazz, Tap, and Showdance, winning many awards over the years. Congratulations Christie!
Canadian group OORAH was voted as the winner of the 2015 Gala World Event, choreographed by Allain Lupien.
Due to the high cost of travel, we have not been back to another Gala since. In 2016, the adult jazz formation "Tango On Fire" by choreographer Shelley Tookey qualified in Germany but all dancers were unable to travel to event. In 2017, Toronto dancer Larissa Leung qualified at the IDO Commonwealth Dance Cup in South Africa for her solo "No Hesitations" but was unable to attend the Gala due to school commitments. Finally, in 2020, ballet dancer from BC, Paige Diggle, was among the many nominations from around the world, for "Satanella".
CBC Arts produced a dance series called The Move 3: Kids. The series features Canadian dancers in a variety of dance styles. Recently, they featured our very own IDO tap medalist, Mats Nixon, who has travelled with our team for the past 6 years - from Children to Adult!
In this very thoughtful and heartwarming piece, he talks about his experiences and his passion for tap. Please check it out.
*for most World Cups - unless you want to be part of a Team Canada group
THESE ARE WORLD CUPS, NOT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Team Canada Dance takes TEAMS to the World Championships, Commonwealth Cup Dance Championships, World Dance Challenge, and selected events. For WORLD CUP events, any dancer may enter and represent Canada, however, Team Canada does audition for groups that we take (for example, to Commonwealth or Dance Challenge, the only CUPS we attend at the moment). You may still enter your own groups/solos/duos and so on - you do not need to be a part of a Team Canada group to take part. You may contact us for details on how to enter on your own as an independent.
Please contact Bonnie@cdo-online.org for more information.
